Dr. Kim recently appeared on a Korean television news program explaining the importance of prevention as the key to healthy eyes. When we are younger we fail to see or think about the consequences our lifestyles have on our eyes.
Things Dr. Kim recommends:
1. Avoid exposing your eyes to harmful UV rays. Try to make it a habit and wear your sunglasses or a hat. Just as your skin and hair require UV protection, so do the eyes.
2. Avoid smoking. This is hard for some but obviously it doesn’t help.
3. Try to take 10 minute breaks for every hour you spend on the PC. Your eyes will love you for it!
4. Sleep! Sleep is the time your body uses to regenerate cells. Your eyes will pay for your sleep deprivation.
5. Alcohol consumption can also cause redness of the eyes. Temporary for some but in others it can exacerbate the problem.
Some have said that a detox program has been tremendously helpful in clearing up any congestion of the eyes. This is worth a try and if nothing else, you reap the other health benefits that come with a detox of the body. Regular exercise is a great way to get the circulation flowing and can help to clear up congestion of the eyes. Lastly, vitamins are known to help clear the eyes. You would be amazed how deficiencies in certain vitamins can affect us. Try to eat foods rich in vitamin A and lots of green leafy vegetables.
